Sharon J. Arkin is the principal of The Arkin Law Firm. She has been certified by the California State Bar, Board of Legal Specialization as an appellate specialist since 2001.
She graduated as valedictorian from Western State University, School of Law in 1991 (Summa Cum Laude) after having served as a summer judicial extern in the Court of Appeal of the State of California, Fourth District, Division 3. After graduation she served as the law and motion and appellate attorney with Shernoff, Bidart and Darras and, as of May 1997, became a partner with the firm when the firm became Shernoff, Bidart, Darras & Arkin.
Ms. Arkin was litigation co-counsel in Goodrich v. Aetna, which resulted in a $116 million punitive damages award – the largest in the country against an HMO at that time.
Ms. Arkin became a partner with Robinson, Calcagnie & Robinson in February, 1999, litigating products liability, personal injury and other consumer cases. The Robinson firm was the statewide-plaintiff’s liaison counsel for the Diet Drug litigation (Fen-Phen), the Rezulin litigation, the PPA litigation and the Bridgestone/Firestone litigation. The firm also represented Gray Davis in the Tobacco Litigation and was involved in the Baycol litigation, Propulsid litigation and other mass torts.
After becoming the senior partner in Arkin & Glovsky in February, 2006, she created her own firm, specializing in appellate work, in 2008.
Ms. Arkin was named as a California Lawyer magazine Attorney of the Year (“CLAY” award) in appellate law in March 2010.
In 2006 and 2009, Ms. Arkin was named as the Appellate Attorney of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and has received the Consumer Attorneys of California President’s Award for Appellate Attorney of the Year in 2009 and received the CAOC Women’s Caucus Consumer Advocate of the Year award for 2009.
Ms. Arkin also received the 2001 Robert E. Cartwright, Sr. Award for Trial Advocacy from the Consumer Attorneys of California, the 2006 Marvin E. Lewis Award from the same organization and in 2002 was inducted into the Western State University, School of Law Hall of Fame. In 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, Ms. Arkin was selected as one of the Daily Journal’s Top Women Litigators in the State of California, was chosen as one of the “Top 100” litigators for 2005 and was selected as one of Southern California’s “Super-Lawyers” by Los Angeles Magazine for 2004, 2006 and every year since. She has also been named as one of the Best Lawyers in America every year since 2005. In 2007, she was awarded the Pursuit of Justice Award by the American Bar Association.
In 2011 she was named as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Southern California by Los Angeles Magazine.
Ms. Arkin is a former President of the Consumer Attorneys of California, co-chair of the group’s Amicus committee and is Editor-in-Chief of the Forum, the organization’s magazine. She is also the Editor-in-Chief of California Litigation, the quarterly law journal of the State Bar’s Litigation Group. And she is a proud member of the Judicial Council’s Civil and Small Claims Committee.
Ms. Arkin regularly testifies before various California and federal legislative and regulatory committees on behalf of consumers regarding issues ranging from arbitration provisions in consumer contracts to limitation of punitive damages and limitation of tort liability.
Ms. Arkin is a member of the State Bar of California and is licensed to practice law in the Central, Northern and Southern Districts of the United States District Courts of California, the Third, Sixth, Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Ms. Arkin has been a repeat Rutter Group seminar speaker as well as a frequent AAJ (formerly ATLA) and CAOC convention speaker, is co-author of The Shernoff Approach to First Party Bad Faith Cases, is the co-author of the punitive damages chapter of the treatise ATLA’s Tort Litigation, published by Thomsen-West, and is author or primary co-author of numerous magazine articles, law review articles, book chapters and seminar materials, a partial list of which is provided below:
